The Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) will take on the Atlanta Falcons (1-1) in Week 3 on Sunday Night Football. We take a look at the over/under and make picks for the game.

You can wager on this interconference matchup at all of the top Michigan online sportsbooks. The Chiefs enter the game as road favorites, but can the Falcons pick up another marquee victory in primetime? let’s take a look:

Kansas City Chiefs at Atlanta Falcons betting odds

Over/Under: 46.5

When the reigning two-time Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) come to town, it’s always a blockbuster event. This next road affair, against the Atlanta Falcons (1-1), might just be a bit bigger than usual. BetMGM Sportsbook currently has the game’s over/under at 46.5 (-110).

Big-game feel

The stage will be NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Perfection is on the line for the defending champs in their quest for a three-peat, even if it’s still only three weeks in. Caesars Sportsbook has the Chiefs at -3 (-115) on the point spread betting line.

An induction will even be made into Atlanta’s Ring of Honor when owner and chairman Arthur Blank is enshrined as the franchise’s 13th member during the game. To help celebrate, Blank is offering free food (hot dogs and chips) and drinks (soda) to all fans in attendance through the third quarter.

Mahomes vs. Cousins

There’s a notable battle of quarterbacks as part of the proceedings, too. Patrick Mahomes, of course, is the standard at his position but it’s possible he gets outshined on this night by the counterpart, Kirk Cousins, in what is the latter’s home debut in his new digs.

Cousins was phenomenal in engineering a stunning game-winning drive last Monday night to clip the Eagles in Philadelphia for his first Falcons victory. It was the type of win that can create significant momentum and propel a team to bigger heights. FanDuel Sportsbook has Cousins at +126 odds to throw over 1.5 touchdowns.

Falcon fuel

The firepower is certainly in place for Cousins to lead his new club toward the top of the standings. Second-year running back Bijan Robinson, for instance, is out to a tremendous start, being one of two players (Alvin Kamara) so far to have logged at least 30 rushes and average more than five yards per carry.

Having a weapon like Robinson — arguably the best running back Cousins has ever played with — is so crucial for the 36-year-old QB1 because he’s so effective using play action.

In fact, across the last two seasons, Cousins had registered 1,967 passing yards and 17 touchdowns compared to only four interceptions on play action plays. The scary thing is that Atlanta hasn’t even really begun to uncork this part of Cousins’ game — but when they start doing so much more frequently, it will have an impact given what Robinson provides on the ground.

Drake London looks like he’s making a leap, but the Falcons pass-catcher to watch for most in this game might be Kyle Pitts, who is at +155 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook to record 50+ receiving yards in Week 3. Through the first two weeks, Kansas City has been getting obliterated by tight ends and Pitts possesses the ability to really stretch the field and do some damage.

Patrick Ma-domes

While Atlanta has looked pretty good on the defensive side of the ball, let’s just recount what they’re about to tangle with: Mahomes in a dome.

This has — somehow relatively quietly — been one of the best trends going in all of sports. Whenever Mahomes has played inside a dome stadium in his career, the Chiefs are 12-0 (including playoffs). The stats are absurd, as the three-time Super Bowl MVP has constructed 3,660 yards, 28 touchdowns and only three interceptions in those games. Fanatics Sportsbook has Mahomes at +300 odds to win the MVP Award again.

Yes, Kansas City will miss the services of Isiah Pacheco but you just know Andy Reid will be able to plug that hole with the other running backs on his roster. Does it even matter, though? The betting odds indicate that it doesn’t.

Again, it’s the great Patrick Mahomes. In his most comfortable element. He’s most likely putting up a crooked number on the scoreboard either way.

Chiefs vs. Falcons prediction

The key to nailing this over will be if Atlanta can somewhat keep up. I think they will and can at least tally a total of 20 or so points. Except KC to accumulate around 30 in this environment and the over is academic.

  • Pick: OVER 46.5 (-110)
  • 2024 NFL Over/Under Betting Record: 2-0, +4 Units
