LENAWEE COUNTY, MI – Four people died Tuesday evening when a Jeep ran a stop sign and crashed into a passing vehicle.
Rescue crews were called at 6:43 p.m. Oct. 1, to the intersection of Tipton Highway and Shepherd Road in Adrian Township for a report of the two-vehicle crash with injuries, according to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies discovered a 2019 Silver Chevy Traverse was going south on Tipton Highway when a 2020 black Jeep Cherokee going west on Shepherd Road ran the stop sign at the intersection and crashed into the Traverse, police said.
Both vehicles went off the road and rolled into a field on the southwest corner of the intersection before coming to a stop, police said.
The drover of the Traverse, an 83-year-old man, and his two passengers, his 79-year-old wife and 52-year-old daughter, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the Jeep, a 51-year-old Clayton man, also was pronounced dead at the scenel, police said.
The occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The Michigan State Police, Tecumseh Police Department, Adrian Township Fire Department, Madison Township Police Department and Raisin Township Police Department assisted at the scene.
